This Multiple Meaning Word (Homographs) packet is super duper useful. I've used this for years, and so have my teammates. It has visuals/pictures, parts of speech, and fill in the blank sentences for each of 29 different multiple meaning words. NO PREP NEEDED...just print, cut, and you're ready!
This is perfect for your ESOL/ELL/English Language Learners because there are pictures for each word:)
Table of Contents:
***Games, Activities, and Center Suggestions using the flashcards provided
***58 flashcards using 29 different multiple meaning words – Each flashcard uses one word in a sentence and has a _________ for the multiple meaning word. It also has two pictures for each word.
***Match the Meaning printables
(2 definitions, 2 pictures, and 2 fill in the blank sentences for each word) - 29 pages ---- have kids match the picture to the meaning
Included are the following words: ball, back, duck, lean, kid, well, gum, left, lie, band, bat, block, bowl, can, face, hand, light, mean, pen, park, pet, pitcher, play, saw, star, top, trip, nail, fly
You can use this in so many ways! Here are just a few game/activity/center suggestions of how you can use this...but the possibilities are endless!
***Match It Up – Print out the cards. Pass out two cards to each student. Have the kids find their matching “multiple meaning word” partner.
***Memory – Print out the flashcards. Flip the cards over face down. One child picks two cards. If they match, that child keeps both cards. If not, they put them back face down and another child takes a turn.
***Go Fish (4-5 players) – Pass out 5 flashcards to each child. Place all of the cards face down in a “pond.” One child asks another if they have the word “can”. If that child has the word, s/he gives the child the card. If s/he does not, s/he says “go fish” and the first child gets another card. The first child to get rid of all of his/her cards wins.
***Literacy “Fill in the Blank” Center – Use these flashcards/words as task cards. Write #s on the back of each card. Kids read each card and write it on a piece of paper. They write the missing word on the paper.
***Literacy “Pocket Chart” Center – Print out the flashcards and have the kids match them up on the pocket chart.
