An activity for students learning to solve multiple step equations This activity is also ideal for a review for students who have already taken Algebra I. Students refine their skills dealing with solving equations but also their inductive reasoning skills, as the pieces will only work out in one manner.
The two versions of the puzzle contain multiple step equation problems in the form of a 4 x 4 grid where students match up the answer next to the problem. One version does not contain problems around the perimeter making it easier for students to put together. The second version of the puzzle contains repeated expressions around the outside making students use their inductive reasoning skills to complete the puzzle. This provides an option for differentiation amongst ability groups. Roman numerals are included in the middle of the pieces so that a teacher can quickly check if the student is correct.
Your purchase includes a PDF file of the puzzles. There is a scrambled version that can be passed directly out to students, the answer key, and a blank version of the puzzle. Although it isn't necessary for use, it is recommended you print the puzzle on cardstock and have it laminated prior to cutting it out so it can last for years to come.
