Are you looking for a quick and fun way to assess your students' understanding of the area model method of multiplication?

These area model task cards include 20 problems that will help your students develop a deeper understanding of the area model of multiplication. They are rigorous and common core aligned with 4th grade standard: 4.NBT.B.5: Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number, and multiply two two-digit numbers, using strategies based on place value and the properties of operations. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.

Specifically, the cards include:
★ 15 problems using 2 x 2 digit multiplication
★ 5 problems using 4 x 1 digit multiplication
Test-prep type questions, asking students to find the missing information or find the error

In this pack, I have provided the following options for you to use as you best see fit. My recommendation would be to print them on cardstock and laminate for future use. They would be great to use for math centers, individual practice, or even a whole-group lesson.
