My students, parents, and principal LOVED this project! I have outlined my exact project that I do although you could adjust to meet the needs of your class. This is an at home project and such a fun and engaging way to teach about arrays!
Students use a set of the same objects to create an array that represents something about them. If you are passionate about reading, you could make an array out of books. If you are a foodie, you could make an array out of forks. If you love fall, you could make an array of leaves. The possibilities are endless.
Once they have created the array, they must take a photo of their array and print off. I am detailed in having them put it on a piece of paper to make it looked framed. Students then will write a 5 sentence paragraph about their array.
The best part... you get to have your class create An Array Art Gallery for the parents, staff, and other students to view. My parents and principal loved this piece of the project. I had parents hang the art work and we created an art gallery opening fit for poshest of posh students. :-)
What you get...
~Detailed Student Instruction Sheet
~ Sample Picture and Writing Slide (Great for when explaining the project)
~Sample parent email/hand out to explain the project and help required.
I always have students come to me with any questions. I will also print off pictures for those who do not have access to a printer.
You will love doing this! Everything is laid out for you. Just simply print and give them a due date! Parents loved being a part of their child's class and helping with the set up.
Take a look at the student example in the pictures! It was one of the cutest and simplest projects!
