Students explore building arrays and explaining their thinking in the patterns they discover.
This packet poses a problem to students: the need to arrange flower pots for display in a flower nursery. The flower pots can only be arranged in a rectangle or square (no L-shapes).
Students start with arranging the numbers 6, 12, and 24. Students build the array with manipulatives (teacher provided or cut out flowers).
As students move through this unit, they reflect on the math and patterns through class discussions and in writing. Writing pages are provided in both primary and intermediate paper.
Also included in the until are extension problems that could be used for assessment.
This unit pairs nicely with my Partitioning Rectangles Unit
