Product Description
Distributive Property of Multiplication: This lesson workbook makes it easy to teach clear, sequential lessons with plenty of step-by-step practice. It includes lessons that teach students how to break apart a number into its expanded form, multiply each part separately, and then add the partial products back together.

This is especially helpful for students who have difficulty with the standard algorithm. Instead of constantly switching back and forth between multiplying, carrying, multiplying, adding, carrying, etc., students do all of the multiplying at one time and then all of the addition with minimal carrying.

Even if students are doing well with the standard algorithm, this format helps them see how the distributive property works and gives them a more solid understanding of place value when multiplying multi-digit numbers.

It includes:
★ 7 Lessons on Multiplying Numbers Ending with Zeros
★ 3 Lessons on Using the Distributive Property to Multiply
★ 6 Lessons on the Box Method of Multiplication
★ 6 Blank Templates for Using the Box Method

✎ Each lesson is presented in model, guided practice, independent practice format.
✎ Step-by-step task analysis is embedded in each sheet.
✎ No prep required.

Students will be able to:
• Multiply numbers ending in zeros
• Solve 1x2, 1x3, and 1x4 digit problems using the distributive property
• Solve 1x2, 1x3, 1x4, 2x2, 2x3, and 3x3 digit problems using the box method

Note: This product does NOT include detailed scripted lesson plans—only the short and simple lessons as shown in the preview. Please look at the preview carefully and ask me any questions you have before you buy.

This is only one chapter in the series of multiplication workbooks.

Our students with learning difficulties need consistency. It can be frustrating as a teacher when you are piecing together and adapting materials from different programs while students are moved quickly from one intervention to the next. I needed math lessons that would get my students smoothly from point A to point B, taking small sequential steps along the way.

These materials were created to align with what is taught in general education classrooms and link directly to the standards (required for IEP goals), yet they are adapted to be explicit, systematic, and chunked into small objectives. Many practice repetitions are needed to master a skill. These workbooks provide that practice in an easy-to-teach format.

Each workbook can be used individually as a stand-alone intervention for that skill or they can be used together, taking students from the basics of addition and place value in first grade all the way to long division in fourth grade. These materials can also be used with older students to help fill the gaps in their learning. No grade levels are printed on workbook pages and clip art is appropriate for all ages.

The design of my math resources is based on research including the findings of this study:
Which Instructional Practices Most Help First-Grade Students With and Without Mathematics Difficulties? published June 25, 2014 in Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Educational Research Association.
