This file contains 9 separate documents with detailed steps for the following standard algorithms (Common Core):
-Dividing decimal by a decimal (decimal in BOTH numbers)
-Dividing a whole number by a decimal number (decimal in divisor ONLY)
-Dividing decimal by a whole number (decimal in dividend ONLY)
-Dividing a four-digit number by a one-digit divisor
-Dividing a three-digit number by a two-digit number, and concerting a remainder into a decimal
-Dividing a four-digit number by a two-digit divisor
-Decimal multiplication (ones/tenths times ones/tenths)
-Two-digit by two-digit multiplication
-Three-digit by one-digit multiplication
They are color-coded; the current step is shown in red. You can use them in your classroom as a resource for all students, or for a select few who need additional practice or help remembering the steps. I have used them as a targeted intervention for my fifth grade students who haven't yet mastered decimal division. I printed them in color on card stock, laminated, and cut them. Then, I punched holes in each of the cards and attached them to a silver binder ring so that my students could easily keep them in order.
This resource could also be great if you have parents who learned division a different way when they were in school and therefore feel unable to help their children with the "new" standard algorithm.
