Do your students struggle with multiplication facts? Our third grade team created a Professsional Learning Community around multiplication. We began by giving all of our third grade students the Diagnostic assessment. Those who know their facts were sent to a "Specialist" doctor/teacher to play games and review multiplication. Those who did not know their certain facts were sent to a doctor/teacher for the unknown facts. We had one teacher of the 2's, 3's, etc. The students were required to check in with his/her doctor by Friday and show mastery in assigned facts. Students were given their "checkup" on his/her facts. Band aids and prescription sheets are attached to make learning more fun. The teachers wore medical masks with their number facts on the front. We did this for 30 minutes a week for 3 weeks. The growth shown from the beginning of the PLC to the end was amazing. The kids in the Third Grade at our school were not only pleasing his/her teacher, they were also working hard for all teachers across the grade level.
