This resource provides a low-prep multiplication fact fluency game for problems up to 5 x 5 for use in grades 2-4. Students must use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to determine potential answers and multiplication sentences that go with each domino.
This game is ideal for use in teacher-directed small groups, as an early finisher activity or as a center.
Multiplication dominoes can be played individually, as a team, or as a competitive game depending on your student needs.
- For individual/team use, players spread cards out in a large area and choose a random card to start with. Players must work together to find a domino card with a corresponding answer or problem until all dominoes are correctly placed.
- For competitive group use, each player takes 5 random dominoes. The rest stay in a stack face down. The first player lays down a domino of their choice. Going in a circle, the next player checks if they have a domino that corresponds to the one laid down. If so, they place that domino on the table. If not, they pick up a card from the stack and the next player has their turn. If a player runs out of dominoes, they must pick up 1 from the pile. Play continues until all the dominoes in the middle are used. The winner is the first player to lay down all their dominoes correctly.
Directions can be printed and kept with the game pieces for students to review as needed.
To prepare, simply print on coloured cardstock, cut apart domino cards and laminate if desired.
