To make across content connections, I created an itinerary for my third/fourth grade students focused around mastery of their multiplication facts. For each factor that they mastered (I used a time math page to measure success), they got to travel to a new state. As a class we voted on a state for each fact, starting within our region and moving farther away, eventually reaching Hawaii (for the challenge).
Students enjoyed getting to know their facts and the reward of getting to travel the country. For students who struggled with their fact fluency (and needed to move at a slower pace), students worked without time and had less problems to complete.
