***************************************************************************

There are 40 weeks of tests. On the back of each test is a pretest and post-test. The pretest takes 30 seconds and it gets their minds excited for the challenge. The post-test takes about 1 minute to complete and helps them reflect on their learning and master other Common Core math skills.

Included is a comprehensive and child-friendly powerpoint that teaches the students exactly how to take and score the test. All the work has been done for you!

When the test is over, pencils go down, and you display the answers. Kids correct their own tests quickly, enter their weekly score on the included bar graph, and complete the post-test, which they take home and use as a study guide for next week's test. Once you're rolling, the whole process takes 5- 10 minutes per week.

The bar graph stays in school. We use this during parent-teacher conferences and the parents have been very enthusiastic about seeing their child monitor his/her own progress!

Mnemonic sayings are introduced in the pretests to help your students master challenging facts. Accompanying posters that display these sayings are included to hang in your room.

In the post-test, students will gradually enter their maximum/minimum scores and the range of those scores. As the year progresses, they will round their score to the nearest 10, and decide if their score is a composite or prime number.

The post-test also asks them which two facts they are proud they got that week and which four they will focus on for the next week.

This kit will help your students see numbers in a meaningful way and will remember the various skills because they will be relevant to their progress. They will master concepts of maximum, minimum, range, composite, prime, and rounding to the nearest ten because they will be consistently practicing them week after week. These concepts will have meaning and will become part of their long-term memory.

This system also gives your students the powerful feeling of being in the driver's seat of their own learning. With the bar graph data, they can see the correlation between work and progress. Likewise, they will see what happens to the brain after a winter break. (Scores tend to drop after breaks.) This makes for outstanding growth-mindset conversations.

Interpret products of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 5 × 7 as the total number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a total number of objects can be expressed as 5 × 7.
Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
Interpret a multiplication equation as a comparison, e.g., interpret 35 = 5 × 7 as a statement that 35 is 5 times as many as 7 and 7 times as many as 5. Represent verbal statements of multiplicative comparisons as multiplication equations.
Multiply or divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem, distinguishing multiplicative comparison from additive comparison.
