This is a differentiated pack of multiplication fact worksheets. It includes all multiplication facts from 0 – 12 and their corresponding division facts. These worksheets help students to increase the speed and fluency of their recall of multiplication facts. There are 16 levels which increase in difficulty. Level 1 consists of 20 questions covering simple multiplication facts and the levels increase in difficulty as the students move through them until they reach Level 16 which consists of 100 questions involving both multiplication and division facts to 12 x 12. At each level a new time table is introduced, however each level also retains some of the previous multiplication facts so that students do not forget these facts. The differentiated levels mean that students are able to work at their appropriate level. Also included is an answer key for each level. Each sheet contains a box in which to record the student’s score.
How I use this in my classroom
I have used this with year 2s up to year 6s in order to improve students’ automatic recall of their multiplication facts. I use this every week and it has always been a popular maths warm up with my students. They enjoy the challenge and are motivated to move through the levels each week. Parents also love these as they can support students at home with their given level. When using this as a warm up I give all students, no matter the level they’re on, 4 minutes to complete their sheet. In order to move onto the next level students must achieve 100% on their current level within the 4 minute time limit. I have had year 3 students complete Level 16 correctly in 4 minutes. When beginning this at the start of the school year I first work out which level students need to begin on. For younger grades I start all students at Level 1, with older grades I use my knowledge of the students and teacher judgement to decide which level each student should start on (sometimes I have to readjust for the following week if my estimate was off). If you’re unsure I recommend starting students on a lower level as it can be a great confidence boost if they get 100% on the first few levels. I send home students’ corrected worksheet (see answer key included) for homework so that students can revise any multiplication facts they got wrong.
While helpful in the classroom, this can also be useful for tutors or parents who wish to help their children improve their multiplication fact recall.
