In order for students to engage in high order thinking activities, they have to have fluency in basic computation. This is a set of assessments students take three times a week the first semester and once a week during the second semester. There are extensions to these activities once students have mastered them. I have been using this method of assessment for seven years and have seen remarkable results on standardized testing. This set includes detailed explanation of implementation, Teacher Tracking Sheet, Student Tracking Sheet, and multiplication tests 4's through 9's.
