***UPDATED 9/15 TO INCLUDE TWO VERSIONS***
After over 20,000 downloads of this product, I have had numerous requests to add a second version, and I'm happy to say that it is done! The original is still in the download, and I have added a version that replaces the word problem with repeated addition. I hope that you will find this useful.
This Multiplication Give Me 5 poster is a reminder for students of five ways to show their understanding of a multiplication problem. I have also included a worksheet template page for students to fill out on their own. Two are included - the first is perfect for placing in a sheet protector and writing with dry erase markers. the second is for pencil and so has an added place for the student's name.
After students are used to showing their mathematical thinking in this way, they won't need the template - they can write it in their math journals, on blank paper, or on a poster or white board if you want them to work in groups.
For more information on this subject, please check out my blog post, "I'd Like Some Multiplication With My Ice Cream, Please."
I use LOTS of gestures in my classroom, and this one is easy. When you want students to show you more understanding of how multiplication works, just hold up your hand and smile! Students will know that you are saying, "Give Me 5."
There are two different worksheets included - on the second, I added a place for the student's name!
