Teacher Tips:
Many of us have used “Mad Minute”-style worksheets to help our students before; only you know what works best for your classroom. A standard routine includes passing copies of the same sheet to every student, setting a one minute timer, and then allowing students to self grade by reading the answers aloud. Consider keeping a common pattern with sheets practicing different skills!
Opening/Closing Act:
For classrooms that benefit from clear transitions, use a Math Minute at the start or end of every math class. This routine reinforces the importance of regular practice as well as supports positive classroom management.
Independent Practice:
For students that would benefit from extra practice, Math Minutes are great as homework, in-class early finish work, extra credit, study hall work, etc. Consider helping families learn to support students by making timing a fun challenge at home.
