Designed specifically for ELLs and struggling learners, these 5 Smartboards, Gallery Walk Pieces, and Scaffold Sheet will help even the most frustrated student experience success with 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication through the Partial Product Area Model (PPAM) strategy.
The introductory Gallery Walks give learners a low-stress environment that allows them to "discover" the steps, patterns, (& tricks!) to the PPAM method. The Galleries can be done digitally (via the Smartboards) or the Gallery Pieces (Word documents) can be printed in color and hung around the room for the added bonus of movement.
The Numbers Only practice engages students with the novelty of selecting from the random generator (Smartboard feature). My specialty is the Tier 3 students who struggle- so with them in mind, I also created a "Barebones Remediation" Smartboard that uses color overlays to help students SEE which factors meet in each rectangle.
There is also a scaffold sheet that I gradually wean the students off once they become proficient in the process.
After a week, even my 4th grader who is an ELL, Special Education, and Dyslexic was drawing his own scaffold sheet for word problems & solving correctly!
