Students often have difficulty remembering the properties of powers. Instead of just memorizing what to do when multiplying powers with the same base, have your students discover it! By discovering the rule, rather than simply memorizing, students will retain the knowledge more easily and also understand where it comes from. This leads to greater number sense.
This activity covers three multiplication properties of exponents: the product of powers with the same base property, the power of a product property, and the power of a power property.
