Description

These math charts show a multiplication strategy or tip for learning each of the tables from 0 - 10. As you teach multiplication, give your students the 2-page Multiplication Strategies and Tips Chart to store in binders, folders, or home. Now they will have a handy resource for learning the facts.

Do all your students learn multiplication facts easily and quickly? Better yet, do they retain the facts? Learning multiplication facts can be overwhelming and daunting for some students. Memorization isn't always easy or reliable. But knowing the facts will be necessary for doing higher-level math. Students need multiplication strategies and tips to help them know and recall the facts when needed.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Teach the strategy or tip that is on the chart.
  • Have students practice the strategy or tip.
  • Give your students the 2-page Multiplication Strategies and Tips Chart to store in binders, folders, or home.
  • Have students refer to the chart when stuck on a particular multiplication fact.
  • Assess to see if the student is using the strategy
  • Give students a copy of the included Multiplication Tables Charts for reference
  • Give students a copy of the Multiplication Facts BookMark for studying

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • a 2-page chart that shows and explains a strategy or tip to learning a particular multiplication table.
  • All posters are included as color versions, non-color versions, color without border, and non-color without border.
  • Palm "Threes" (like Palm Trees) chart will teach you how to use the palm side of your hand and fingers to multiply by 3.
  • Calculator Hands chart demonstrates to your students how to turn their hands into calculators to figure out the multiplication tables from 6 to 10. Guaranteed to be a lifesaver for those students who have difficulties memorizing lots of information, such as the multiplication tables, especially the tricky 6s, 7s, and 8s.
  • Also included is a letter to parents (in English and Spanish) that explains the use of the chart, which can be sent home at the beginning of the year or conferences, or on Back to School Night.
  • One of the most important tools for learning multiplication facts is understanding the Commutative Property of Multiplication. Included is a color poster explaining the Commutative Property of Multiplication.
  • There is also a Multiplication Chart for all tables 0 to 10 that can be used as a resource in the classroom or at home.
  • Give students their own Multiplication Facts Bookmark. A bookmark for tables 2 - 10 listing the multiples for those factors.
  • Students can also take home the 15 Fearsome Multiplication Facts flashcards to practice the 15 hardest facts to learn.

EXTRAS

  • Need to assess the progress of your students on the multiplication facts? How about a no-prep formative assessment? Instructions on administering a T-Test are included; an individualized test administered whole class or small group, or individually. This formative assessment can also be administered as an untimed test.
  • The Dot Array Tip Poster for students explains what to do when you can't remember any strategy!

Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide. Examples: If 6 × 4 = 24 is known, then 4 × 6 = 24 is also known. (Commutative property of multiplication.) 3 × 5 × 2 can be found by 3 × 5 = 15, then 15 × 2 = 30, or by 5 × 2 = 10, then 3 × 10 = 30. (Associative property of multiplication.) Knowing that 8 × 5 = 40 and 8 × 2 = 16, one can find 8 × 7 as 8 × (5 + 2) = (8 × 5) + (8 × 2) = 40 + 16 = 56. (Distributive property.)
Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
Identify arithmetic patterns (including patterns in the addition table or multiplication table), and explain them using properties of operations. For example, observe that 4 times a number is always even, and explain why 4 times a number can be decomposed into two equal addends.
