Students solve 4 multiplication word problems using the strategies of repeated addition and representing the problem in a picture. They must choose to use one of these two strategies to solve each problem. Great practice for building multiplication concepts and can be used for homework or as a Do-Now. The theme of the Gingerbread Man fits well with a literacy study of the story of the Gingerbread Man, as well. We read different versions of the classic tale and then compared them by characters, setting, problem, and solution. The multiplication word problems were used to connect math with literacy. You could also use them as a minilesson on multiplication strategies for solving word problems.
