Multiplication facts are so important. When students do not know their multiplication facts, it makes many skills more difficult as they progress to higher grade levels (long division, area, etc.) It is essential that students master the multiplication facts throughout third and fourth grade.
I believe in teaching STRATEGY when it comes to multiplication. Strategies are like “tools” that students can use to solve an equation. When he sees an equation, he grabs the proper “tool” from his “toolbox” to ensure that he can solve the equation effectively and efficiently.
Eventually, through repetition and practice, some multiplication facts will be committed to memory, and strategy may not be necessary anymore. This is the ultimate goal.
These posters will support strategy instruction in your classroom. Use them throughout your multiplication unit to teach and reinforce these essential strategies.
Because you, as a teacher, may not have encountered all of these strategies before, I have included a Teacher Reference Guide on the following pages. This will help you to understand each strategy before using it with your students.
This resource includes multiplication strategy posters for each times table from 0-10. If you already use The Multiplication Station, these posters will support your students' learning nicely.
