Multiplication is a tricky concept to teach and visuals are an important way to make the abstract concrete. This lesson is a creative way to teach a challenging concept.
In this activity, students will roll dice to determine the number of bugs and legs on each bug. They use the enclosed organizer to structure their work. Then they create a wacky, interesting theme for their Weird Bug Books. It’s fun and really reinforces the concept. When my former 3rd graders look back on their favorite activity of the year, this comes up high on their lists.
