This activity is perfect for 4th grade math (4.NBT.5) or as a review for 5th graders. Students solve 12 multiplication problems of increasing difficulty. Problems include:
- three problems multiplying numbers with zeros (example: 40 x 500)
- three problems multiplying 2 digit and 3 digit numbers by 1 digit without regrouping
- three problems multiplying 2 digit and 3 digit numbers by 1 digit with regrouping
- three problems multiplying 2 digit by 2 digit numbers
After finding the answers, students match them to their corresponding winter images and include those images in their winter scene. Students cut out each correct image and glue it onto the winter scene background. Finally students color their winter scene and add any other details they want. This activity is easy to assess as student scenes will only include the right images if they have solved the problems correctly.
