This 5-problem worksheet asks students to complete a multiplication/division diagram prior to solving each story problem so that they can begin to see that in multiplication stories, the size of the groups and the number per group is known but the total is not whereas in division the total is known but one of the other two amounts are not. Students write a number model or sentence to represent the problem and solution. This worksheet helps students to distinguish multiplication and division scenarios. Furthermore, it provides practice in interpreting remainders because in some problems the remainder is ignored while in others it is not. It includes an answer key. Created by Cooley for fourth and fifth grade students.
