Multiplication and Division Word Problem Models/Equations Task Cards
Share

Description

There are 16 word problems that involve either multiplication or division. All problems are within 2-digit by 1-digit multiplication as well as some multi-step problems. There are 8 sets of 2 different word problems using the same numbers but with different outcomes depending on the operation.

The task cards come in 2 pieces. The students match the appropriate word problem to the model/equation task card.

You can use this as a group activity where students are divided into groups and given the task cards that have been printed, laminated, and cut. They work together to solve the problems and match the models/equations. These cards also make a great center.

Another option would be to give students each a word problem and lay out the answers around the room. Students walk around and try to find the word problem and model/equation match.

Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
