Multiplication and division of powers of ten bundle – 4 activities
The four activities included in this bundle work together to help students learn how to multiply and divide with powers of ten. Each of these tasks contain exponents. I have included them in these products because sometimes there is much confusion with understanding the meaning of those exponents and how to work with them.
The 4 activities included in this bundle are:
• Multiplying by Powers of Ten with Exponents – Students should be internalizing the fact that the product will be larger than the number with which they started.
• Dividing by Powers of Ten with Exponents-Students should be internalizing the fact that the quotient will be smaller than the number with which they started.
• Multiplying and Dividing by Powers of Ten with Exponents – In this activity students start with the same number and find the matching product or sum depending on whether they have been asked to multiply or divide.
* Place Value Chart - This chart provides places from hundred million to thousandths. I have included a decimal point to emphasize to the students the important idea that the decimal point does not move--it has a static position between the ones place and the tenths place. Explanations of how to use this chart are included in this activity.
Thank you for your interest in this product. I am interested in your comments. Please leave feedback. I hope that your students enjoy using these activities.
