Using counting on students practice creating their own multiplication chart.
I have been using this since 1994 with 5th graders. They should be able to create their own chart in 3 to 5 minutes unless they struggle with fine motor skills.
I have used them as daily practice in 4th, a teaching tool in 3rd and a coping skill for grades 5 and up.
The rules are simple, fill in going down the column. If you have not memorized the count by's then just count on. Reinforce correctness and improvement! Some students love the timer challenge.
