This activity allows my third graders the opportunity to practice matching a multiplication equation with its picture representation. There are a number of commutative property examples included, so you can be sure that your students have mastered the skill.
I have included three types of visuals: multiplication on a number line (2 pages), multiplication in arrays (2 pages), and multiplication in groups (2 pages).
Each picture is next to its matching equation. I typically divide the class in half and give equation cards to one group and picture cards to another group. Then I pair students up to make matches. This activity could be done independently as well. These cards would make a great math station or a card game (Go-Fish or Memory style).
