This is a powerpoint lesson about basic multiplication using representation models. The models featured in this lesson include sets, arrays and number lines. Brief discussion of repeated addition and skip counting is included near the end. A final check at the end asks students to take 24 of their apple jacks and put them into equal groups of their choice. Then they explain and write a related multiplication and division sentence. My class enjoyed the different combinations that resulted and some checked in and then tried a new way to make 24.
Each student in your class will need a small baggie of Apple Jacks. Cheerios or Fruit Loops could easily be substituted!
