I can tell you from personal experience that a Special Education student was able to successfully and happily learn multiplication with his peers. I created them because that summer-tutor student originally didn't understand that 8x2 = 8+8...and by the end of the summer he was quoting me the 4's!
Then other students at school wanted to use them because it's a very visual way to learn the times tables! No more drawing lines and circles everywhere and then recounting them.
Students can fold the counters down when they are ready to test themselves, and then self-check. Differentiated!
These are in color but they print fine in greyscale/ black and white on xerox machines (columns are dark and light).
