The purpose of these task cards is to give students the opportunity to practice multiplying 2 digit by 1 digit numbers, specifically using the distributive property. The task cards are in two digit x one digit format as well as addends x one digit format.
The product includes a page that defines the distributive property and provides an example, 32 task cards, recording sheet, and answer key.
There are a variety of ways that you can use these task cards. I suggest printing them on cardstock and laminating for more durability. I hope you find them useful!
For whole class instruction, I tape them around the room for “Scoot” and the students rotate at their own pace. I will either go over the answers as a class, allow students to self check upon completion, or I grade them myself.
For small group instruction, I allow the students to work in predetermined groups of 4-6 kids and solve the problems together. I provide them with an answer sheet to self check.
OR I use them during my guided math center rotation so I can use with students one at a time.
These task cards were made specifically for 4th graders in North Carolina. These task cards satisfy partial criteria for CCSS 4.NBT.5.B.5.
