Models created for multiplying and dividing fractions are ready for the classroom. Just print and cut into half sheets for students to color and mark up or upload for students to shade and mark up on their devices. The majority of models practice multiplication.
Suggestions for use
Whole class instruction – teacher and students all use the same models to demonstrate fraction multiplication and division to draw. Another option: print the first few pages of multiplying and dividing models that “match.” Allow students to draw conclusions about multiplying and dividing (Ex. 2/3 ÷ 3 and 2/3 x 1/3 produce the same result, but 2/3 ÷ 1/6 and 2/3 x 1/6 does not)
Intervention small group- print a selection of models to continue practice multiplying and dividing with a small group
Enrichment small group - print a selection of models and challenge enrichment students to write story problems that match the model. Another option: give students one of the drawn models and challenge students to find alternative ways to draw a model that represents the same expression.
Review stations – print a selection of models for independent practice
Exit ticket - select one essential understanding model and print one for each student. After a modeling lesson, give each student the model to mark and label to quickly see who “gets it.”
