This is a great activity to get students out of their seats and moving in math class! These multiplication and division problems with rational numbers include fractions, mixed numbers, improper fractions, decimals, and minimal use of variables. Direct computation as well as word problems are included. Students can work with a partner, small group, or individually to solve the ten problems involving rational numbers using multiplication and division, and write the “clue” word for that station on their paper. Students can work in whatever order they want, so it is easy to spread them out across the room. Each card is numbered in the upper left star.
Two versions of the activity are included to help make printing easier for you. The first has a color background along with the color stars and boxes. The second has a plain white background with the color stars and boxes. If “no color” ink is needed, just print the second set in grayscale or pure black & white. I prefer to print each card in landscape mode. Half sheet student answer sheets are also included to help save on paper and copying costs.
Printing each question on cardstock and laminating each will keep copy costs down and preserve the activity for years to come. I hope you and your students enjoy this activity as much as mine do!
