This is an activity that has students sort out word problems by determining if the problem requires multiplication or division. I use this activity with my students before we start word problems since many students get confused with recognizing the difference between multiplication and division problems. I also like for my students to circle key words that support their answer.
You could use this activity as a center, within small groups, as homework, or a mini assessment.
Once students sort out the problems on the chart they can solve the problems. This is a quick activity that really helps me pinpoint where my students may be struggling.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
