This is an animated PowerPoint presentation that shows students how to extend the ideas from the distributive property to allow them to multiply binomials and eventually larger polynomials.
This file also includes a printable notes sheet for students, which has all the problems from the presentation. This makes it easier for students to work along with you without having to take time copying the problems down from the screen.
Methods shown include:
Most of the slides are spent showing FOIL, but the other methods are included to show how similar they all are and to give students a broader understanding of the topic.
Look at the notes below each slide in PowerPoint to see teaching notes and other comments to help when using this in class.
I tried to make the animations fun as well as interesting. One of them even includes a little homage to Harry Potter. (There's a non-Potterized version of the slide included, but who'd want to use that? heh) ;)
