This is the first mystery in a set designed to help students practice simplifying expressions with exponents. In this activity, students will simplify exponential expressions that through multiplication and through "raising a power to a power." This activity can be used as part of the mystery set or as a stand-alone activity.
Students will simplify each exponential expression and will write their answers using only positive exponents. Then they will use the key on the right side of the page to find the letter that corresponds to their answer. Students will find and shade every occurrence of this letter at the bottom of the page.
When they have completed all 14 questions, students should focus on the boxes they have shaded at the bottom of the page to reveal Jim’s superpower.
The following products cover additional topics of using exponents:
Dividing Exponential Expressions
Mixed Practice with Negative Exponents
Graphing Exponential Equations
