Students are expected to use a diagram to multiply a fraction by a fraction using a diagram. Lets say you have 1/2 X 2/3. To do this, you begin with a rectangle. you first show 1/2 with one color (dividing vertically). Then pretend you didn't shade anything of the rectangle, and show 2/3 with another color (dividing it horizontally). The answer will be the fraction of boxes where both colors are on the same square over the total number of squares. In 1/2 X 2/3, you will have 2 boxes shaded with both colors and 6 boxes in total.
Includes lesson plan, and three differentiated sheets, plus a do now and checklist for students.
