Students multiply fractions with the area model by showing the areas of both fractions (and their intersection) on a common denominator grid. Students then reduce their fractions and write their answers in the boxes on each pennant. Once a pennant is complete, it can be hung along a string in your classroom to show the world that, "Hey, we know how to multiply fractions!"
Choose "Fit", uncheck the box next to "Choose paper source by PDF page size" and choose to print in landscape mode. I create the files larger to get more detail and this seems to confuse some printers. These settings should do the trick.
Included are 20 pennants with fraction multiplication problems, an optional student answer sheet and an answer key. Each group of students can be given a set of pennants, crayons, scissors and either glue, tape or a stapler. Students can be in charge of cutting out the pennants. Groups can compete to see which group can complete the most pennants or your entire class can add pennants to one string as they complete each one.
