Each six-part resource pack includes everything you need to review, practice, and evaluate multiplying fractions and mixed numbers during math workshop, math stations, or whole-class instruction to help your students master fifth-grade content and skills.

Each of the skills in this resource includes the following components:

• Interactive notebook activity designed to provide a one-page review of each skill (two versions to suit your students’ needs)
• Communication through writing task to encourage mathematical thinking, communication, and to deepen students’ understanding of the skill
• Cooperative learning activity to reinforce the skill and support the development of the mathematical practice standards (most activities presented in both color and black and white)
• Challenge task designed to practice the skill in a non-conventional way that challenges student thinking
• Independent practice to reinforce the skill in a fun-filled way
• Journal writing task designed to evaluate student thinking and help students think more deeply about a skill

5.NF.B.5.B- Interpret multiplication as scaling (resizing) by explaining why multiplying a given number by a fraction greater than 1 results in a product greater than the given number (recognizing multiplication by whole numbers greater than 1 as a familiar case); explaining why multiplying a given number by a fraction less than 1 results in a product smaller than the given number; and relating the principle of fraction equivalence a/b = (n × a)/(n × b) to the effect of multiplying a/b by 1.
