This resource includes two half pages of guided notes, two scavenger hunts on multiplying polynomials and an assessment. A variety of problems (monomial multiplied by a polynomial, binomial multiplied by a binomial, etc.) are provided. Your students will have a deeper understanding of multiplying polynomials with this resource!
The first page of notes guides students through four methods using the distributive property. The second page of notes focuses on the FOIL method.
Each scavenger hunt has twelve problems with varying difficulty. Students will solve the first problem and their answer will lead them to the next problem to be completed. The last problem completed should lead them back to the starting position. This is an excellent self-checking activity. Students will gain confidence while multiplying the polynomials.
A fifteen question assessment can be used to determine student understanding with multiplying polynomials. The first ten problems focus on multiplying a binomial by a binomial or a trinomial by a binomial. Four questions ask students to determine the shaded area of a rectangle. The last question is a error analysis problem.
When we completed the FOIL page of notes, students used four different colors to highlight what each letter represented and the arrows in the example provided.
Answer keys are included.
