**We are now beginning to roll out our 4 x 4 math puzzles in a computer format that run in flash. They take out the prep work and can be a computer lab activity or be used to supplement the paper versions. The computer version can be found here: Computer Math Puzzles – Multiplying Radicals.**
A great activity for students learning to multiply and simplify radicals, or as a refresher for upper level math classes. This puzzle contains problems in the form of a 4 x 4 grid where students match up the original multiplying radical problem with its simplified product. Roman numerals are included in the middle of the pieces so that a teacher can quickly check if the student is correct.
There are two puzzles included in the PDF file. On the first version, there are no radicals on the outside of the puzzle. This makes putting together the puzzle easier for students. The second version differs in that it includes radicals around the outside of the puzzle, which challenges students to practice their inductive reasoning and critical thinking skills, while making the puzzle more difficult. The difference in difficulty between the puzzles allows for differentiation amongst your ability groups.
Although it isn't necessary for use, it is recommended you print the puzzle on cardstock and have it laminated prior to cutting it out so it can last for years!
