Multiplying by 1-Digit Numbers
This is a great review lesson, and should take your students 35-45 minutes, depending on their ability. This lesson is set up for students to review multiplying by tens and hundreds, estimating, expanded algorithm, and standard algorithm multiplication of 1-digit by 2, 3, and 4 digit numbers. Students will “visit” four countries during the race: Brazil, France, Ireland, and Japan. In each country students will complete a series of math problems and a physical task. Once they complete the math problems and task students will check-in with the teacher to check for accuracy. If they are correct, they may move onto the next country. After all four countries are complete, students complete The Amazing Math Race by taking two (very careful) laps around the class room. This activity is set up to review the concepts, but to also get the kids moving.
Included in the download is both color and B&W printing options and an answer key.
This lesson is best for 4th grade, but can be used as an extension activity for 3rd grade and a review for 5th grade.
