This Smartboard is designed to be used for teacher modeling while the students have base 10 block manipulatives in front of them. It's purpose is to teach students NOT to just multiply the two front digits and add a zero, but to conceptually SEE why when we multiply by 10s the zero's are added. It builds on student understanding of place value in a visual way. It is designed with a gradual release of responsibility - each time a new place value is introduced there is teacher modeling followed by student practice. Base 10 visual blocks are able to be dragged for instruction.
