Multisensory Grammar curriculum uses color codes to introduce and reinforce the definitions of parts of speech in a sentence. Patterns of color are used to help students compose original sentences of varying lengths and complexities.
These posters show an order in which the parts of speech may be introduced:
Noun markers-They will be color-coded red because red represents warning. Noun markers warn that a noun is coming.
Nouns – They are color-coded yellow because they carry important information in a sentence. Almost every sentence has a noun.
Pronouns-They are color-coded yellow, like the nouns they replace.
Verbs-They are color-coded orange because they are very important in a sentence. Every sentence must have a verb.
Adjectives-They are color-coded blue.
Adverbs-They are color-coded purple because this color is similar to the color blue. Blue is the color code for adjectives. Adverbs and adjectives have similar functions. They both describe.
Conjunctions-They are color-coded brown. They are used to join words, phrases, clauses, or sentences.
Prepositions-They are color-coded green.
