Teaching phonics using a systematic, direct, and multisensory approach is research-driven and has been proven to be effective for all types of learners. This packet includes a detailed lesson plan that follows the Orton-Gillingham methodology and can used with Wilson or any other number of reading interventions. There are a variety of activities in here, which combine the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic-tactile senses in order to maximize the learning.

So, what is in here?

1. OG Lesson plan and review and reinforcement page for writing practice
2. Finger Spelling poster- this visual explains the finger spelling technique and can be posted as a reminder for your students
3. Sound cards- these can be used as a quick drill or with word work practice
4. Real and nonsense word cards- the -ng phonograms are highlighted for easy reference
5. Beat the Clock- this activity can be used to increase speed and fluency. As students begin to master words containing the -ng sound, they are timed for 1 minute and assessed on how many words and phrases they read correctly. Record sheets for assessments are also included.
6. Sound Scoops- a cut and paste activity matching the phonograms with their associated keyword pictures
7. Tapping Out Sounds- read the word, finger spell the sounds in the word and write them in the corresponding boxes (one box for each phonogram- reinforcing the one-to-one correspondence of sounds with their associated letters), and then write the word in the blank
8. Read and Draw- read the sentences and draw a picture of each sentence
9. Sound puzzles- write the words that go with the picture in the box puzzles. Each box corresponds with the shape of the letter that goes in there.
10. Sentences- sentence strips, a matching sentences’ sheet, and recording sheet are included for practice reading sentences containing the -ng phonogram
11. Matching- play a game of matching where students match the word with it’s associated picture
12. Circle It, Draw It- read the real and nonsense word, circle the real word and draw a picture of it
13. Nonsense Words/Real Words practice sheets- students practice reading word lists containing real and nonsense words with the -ng phonogram
