This intervention game is intended for students who have difficulty decoding multisyllabic words with suffixes and are motivated to learn driving words. The game is designed for up to six players and is simple to play. Students take turns rolling dice, moving their token along the track and reading the words as they go to make it to the finish line from driveway before all of the other players. The skills that students work on throughout the game include visual discrimination skills, chunking, using root words and suffixes to accurately decode, fluency and sentence building using themed vocabulary. Students practice decoding real traffic themed words with suffixes. To add extra challenge, create sentences with the words as you go.
The game board should be printed out, pieced together and glued on tagboard for support if you would like it to last. Laminate if desired. Tokens need to be printed on card-stock or tagboard to stand up without flopping over. Paperclips for tokens are not included.
