Teach multisyllabic words by helping the student visualize that there are different parts to the word, rather than relying on their auditory modality when clapping out the syllables. Many of our students need more than one way to learn a new skill. This way you can use multi-modality teaching for better comprehension.
Have the student write one part of the multisyllabic word in each car of the train. You can even encourage them to make longer "trains" by making longer words.
