As a school speech and language pathologist, I have many students who have difficulty pronouncing words with multiple syllables. These students are unable to participate in classroom discussions using grade-level vocabulary. This word pronunciation assessment will allow data to be collected regarding your students’ ability to say these longer and more complex words from 2-5 syllables in length.
This assessment provides word lists for graded vocabulary for grades 4-6. These words are drawn from content area materials and tests.
To use, make a copy of the teacher score sheet for each student tested. Ask the students to say the words beginning at the 2-syllable words and increasing to the 5-syllable words. When finished, you will have percentages for your students’ ability to pronounce these words for 2, 3, 4, and 5 syllable words.
Results are useful for writing IEP goals and for progress reports. A sample IEP goal is provided. This product requires no prep. Just print off and use.
Pair this assessment with the Saying Big Words book which includes over 180 pages of information and activities to teach children how to say longer and more complex words.
