We are cooking some great dishes in the dramatic play center during our family theme. Our early learners are serving up some initial letter sounds while role playing family duties in the Kitchen. As a Tools of the Mind classroom, I try to provide literacy activities that correlate with current themes and that are engaging for young learners. This games focuses on the following 12 letter sounds; /t/, /b/, /c/, /d/, /e/, /f/, /g/, /h/, /j/, /l/, /m/, /p/
•Print dinner plates and forks on card stock. Cut out dinner plates
and forks and laminate.
•Hot glue each fork to a clothespin.
Students pretend to prepare the food on the plate and serve the plate to a family member. The family member (classmate), identifies the middle picture and uses the fork to locate another food item beginning with the same initial sound. The student clips the fork on top of the correct picture. Great fun for all!
Happy Role Playing,
