My high school class recently read their Bone Cinquains in my Fifth Annual A & P Bone Cinquain Poetry readings. For the first time, a student said "hey can we do something like this again?" My quiet thoughts were was this just for fun or was there something deeper going on here? I re-read their cinquains on my own and I realized these simple poems were actually giving deeper meanings to their bones and bone markings (rather than just knowing the name and location.) There is no doubt in my mind, that each student would never forget the role of their favorite bone that was the subject of their poem. Is this disciplinary literacy? I hope so. Let me get to where I am going before you give up reading this description. Well, you know it already, Muscle Limericks!
