This is a detailed field trip proposal to Chicago's Science and Industry Museum complete with a resource link where you can download and print the lesson plans needed and the Common Core/Standards are listed that are covered in ALL core subject areas, Math, Language Arts, Social Studies and Science. You also get links to find and apply for Field Trip Grants to help with costs.
This is a rich and detailed trip and so much will be learned through this experience. I have selected a few of the main exhibits at the museum and attached the link for the exhibits resources. You and your students will get to see and experience Science Storms, an exhibit revealing the science behind some of nature’s most powerful phenomena; YOU! The Experience, an exhibit that lets you explore what it means to live a vital, healthy life in the 21st century, and the U-505 Submarine, the only German U-boat in the United States and Numbers in Nature. These are four exhibits that will be visited during the field trip (minimum). Each one of them has printable activities and worksheets that go with the exhibit; either to be partially done prior to the trip or at the museum during the field trip. Some will also be completed afterwards either in the classroom or as homework.
Students will complete worksheets/activities for the following exhibits: Science Storms, students will be provided a Science Storms Student Guide, YOU! The Experience, students will be provided a YOU! Student Guide and the teacher has Guiding Questions, U-505, students will be provided a U-505 Instructors Manual (which is phenomenal!), also to add to this students will be given a Self-Guided Exploration booklet that they will make prior to the trip and complete when they’re back in the classroom. Any of these activities can be used as an assessment tool.
Just add in the details for your school and this proposal is ready to print and be given to you administrator!
